DISCLAIMER: This is a fan-made remake of the UFO 50 game OVERBOLD,  I have no association with Mossmouth (the studio that made the game this is based on).

About

It’s the year 1997, with the recent surge in developing homebrew for the PICO-8 home computer, I've decided to take a crack at it and remake my favorite LX-II game, OVERBOLD, which I have fond memories of playing back in the 80s.

OVERBOLD FME (fan-made edition) for the PICO-8 is a brutal, topdown shoot-em-up, with strategic planning. You fight various enemies, gaining more rewards the more enemies you choose to fight. Play aggressively to net powerful upgrades- just make sure not to go over bold

Features

  • 16 unique upgradable abilities! 3 of them new!
  • 3 difficulties!
  • A pretty woman!
  • 7 various enemies to encounter!
  • Creative liberties taken for more QOL!
  • GAMBLING!
  • Built from the ground up with original graphics, music, and sound effects!
  • A secret ending?

Controls

  •  Up//Left/Down/Right - Move/aim
  •  X - Shoot (Hold to lock direction)
  •  Z - Bomb
  • Controller recommended!

You can also find OVERBOLD FME on the PICO-8 BBS

And for more stuff like this, please check out what this is based on, a single game from Mossmouth's UFO 50 collection. It is peak and so worth the $25 price tag.

Pretty fun game!

I found I was only able to get enough money to be strong enough to beat the final boss if I raised prize 3x on every round.

My completionist ass wasn't happy that I couldn't max out every upgrade, but I understand if that doesn't fit the purpose / story of the game.
